How my recent job rejection helped me heal and love myself
Last Monday I applied for a job position as a writer. It’s been many years since I worked as an employee and I’ve experienced a fair bit of disappointments on the professional front. But I thought all this was behind me now and since the opportunity was ticking my boxes and I met the requirements, I went for it with my best intentions. The hiring company was the online publication Bright Side and they wanted me to pass a test. After a couple of days of communicating with the HR, a broken link, and a slight delay, I got to the challenge. I didn’t pass it. But let me start from…

Accepting our shadow as a way back to wholeness
The key to joyful happy full life is the acceptance of all of yourself. It was C.G. Jung who first developed the concept of the “shadow” – we all have parts of ourselves that we would rather hide than show to ourselves or the world. These are those qualities we deem “unacceptable” due to many reasons – perhaps our parents told us that such and such people are bad, or to be this and this is wrong. Or it was our culture and community we grew up in that portrayed certain characteristics in a negative way. At a very early age, we learn to disassociate from these qualities in ourselves…

Acceptance: the path to change
“If you want to see change in your life, accept it as it is.” Lately, I find myself wanting yet another change in my life. I live in a city. About an year ago my family and I moved to Sofia, Bulgaria. It happens to be one of the most polluted capitals in Europe. I’ve started feeling the dust and the dirt of the city polluting my own life and state of mind. I find myself wanting to move again. I want to go far from the smog, the noise, the cruelty, and the trickery. Our family has suffered a few blows on our property, we’ve been stolen from, and…

You deserve your love
How comfortable are you with yourself? Are you accepting of yourself? What do you feel when you look in the mirror? What’s your first thought when you see a picture of yourself? Love yourself! It may be hard at first, it may even sound absurd. Believe me, I know first hand. But you deserve your love more than anyone else. Give it to yourself, even if it feels ridiculous and silly. It’s the only way towards happiness and fulfillment in life. It’s the first step towards self-realisation and inner peace. Nobody else will give you that love. It can only come from you to you. It’s your only obligation in…

Jonelle is a Mom, Wife, Ostomate, Writer and Community Development Practitioner! She writes the blog Tyranny of Pink, a blog about intentional living, with a focus on living life positively, purposefully and authentically. In September 2015 she had her first child, Oden. His journey into this world nearly killed her. She woke up post-surgery with an unexpected stoma and her whole life completely changed. Embracing our (complex) human nature
Hey everyone, I’ve missed you! I often find myself distracted in many ways in life. Then I start feeling very anxious and then I realise it often is because I haven’t written in a while. (I know I’ve said that before.) The thing is that when we’re by ourselves, not really doing anything creative, our minds can run wild. It’s like our minds are looking hard to find something to do and when we’re not giving them that, they starts going rampant in our heads. Do you feel that sometimes? I can’t pin point why this is happening, why we still procrastinate, even when we know the process quite well.…

Why holding space is so important in relationships
You may have heard the term “to hold space” for somebody. Did you fully understand what it means? How we actually do that and why is it so important? I remember reading about it a while ago but couldn’t quite connect the dots – it just sounded abstract or something. And I’ve been seeing articles and videos on the subject circulating around social media, but it wasn’t until I had my own realisations about what relationships really are, that I fully embodied the understanding of what this term means. As I wrote in my previous post, relationships are tools that are assigned from God to us, and signed in a…

Dreams of freedom and defining values
What is freedom for you? Can you answer with one word, perhaps you need one sentence? And what do you dream of? Do you need more than a sentence to describe your dream? I understand – we often don’t know what we’re dreaming of or perhaps, all the more, we’re not daring into thinking what our dream really is. And sometimes it takes quite a long time to realise it… I’m one of the people who until now didn’t understand what they really long for. I knew I was longing for something, something else than what I was experiencing. But I think I may have been too scared to question myself –…

Being present: getting to know and love ourselves
I’d like to talk about my experience of being present and how I came around it. Something that wasn’t only a realisation in my mind but a feeling in my body as well. A knowledge of how one IS when they are present in the moment. I have started doing some regular meditation sessions. I’m using an app called Headspace, and without being affiliated with the company – I’d recommend it to anyone. When you sign up you start with ten meditation sessions lasting 10 minutes each. When you finish these you can continue to the next ten 15-minute meditation sessions. And then off to the 20-minute long ones. So in…
